In this two-day workshop with Mike Laiuppa at the Lyme Art Association, students will learn to navigate the properties of light and how to apply them to their paintings to achieve eye-popping results that captivate viewers. Whether they want to paint a still-life, portrait, or landscape, what they learn over this weekend can be applied to all genres. Understanding how light works is a powerful tool as it allows painters to play with color and temperature in ways that can elevate their work above just a simple copy of what they see.
With enough practice, students will be able to add light and shadow to objects in their source that may not already be lit, or even move light around their painting at will while still making it look convincing. By understanding how light behaves, students can apply its rules to anything; even without having a reference! Talk about being a human Photoshop!
